Everything we do in Boca RatonEverything we do in Palm Beach CountyWhat it costs: How Much Does a Walk-In Shower Cost?
A quarter of the city is over 65
Boca Raton's residents are the oldest on my route, 24.6 percent of them 65 or over, in the smallest households, 2.26 people.
So the walk-in shower I'm asked for here is rarely about style first. It's about a threshold that disappears, a bench to sit on, grab bars that are actually anchored, a hand shower you can reach from the bench, a thermostatic valve installed and temperature-limited by the licensed plumber to reduce scald risk, and floor tile with some grip. I build all of it into the pan rather than bolting it on afterward, with solid blocking behind the tile wherever a bar may ever go. Where the bathroom sits decides the entry: a single-story villa in Boca West or a Royal Palm house on a slab can be recessed for a linear drain, while a Century Village elevator building's deck is never cut, so the zero entry there is a raised bathroom floor or, more often, a 2-inch curb.
- Boca West: begun by Arvida in 1971, roughly 3,400 residences across more than 50 villages, member-owned since 1991; the Arbor Lake condos, by the listings, date to 1977 to 1979.
- Century Village Boca Raton: a gated 55-plus community of three- and four-story elevator buildings from 1979, with building-level associations under a master. Approval, insurance certificate and elevator time come first.
- Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club: 749 homesites laid out from 1959, 229 of them on the water. Older slabs, so the plumber scopes the drain before I cut.
The drain under a 1970s house
More than half of Boca Raton was built in the 1970s and 80s (Census ACS 2024), the country-club build-out, and the east side is older still: Old Floresta's Mizner-era houses from 1926 became the city's first historic district in 1990, and Boca Square, Boca Villas and the Floresta neighborhoods were picked for the city's iSIP program because of the age and material of the pipes under their streets. For a walk-in, the line that matters is the one from your bathroom to the street. On a sound slab the curbless build is a saw-cut recess, a linear drain set in mortar, a sloped pan, a sheet membrane up the walls and a 24-hour flood test before a single tile.
Harder water, and what it does to glass
Boca Raton publishes its water hardness, which most cities don't: 65 to 80 milligrams per liter, or 3.8 to 4.7 grains, at a pH of 8.0 to 8.5, with a chloramine residual and no added fluoride.
The Glades Road plant softens Biscayne Aquifer water two ways, a membrane process built in 2005 beside a lime plant that has run for more than 50 years, through 740 miles of pipe. That water is harder than most of Broward's, and it shows first on frameless glass and in the slots of a linear drain grate. The fixes are cheap: a squeegee on the wall, a monthly vinegar wipe, a brushed rather than polished finish on the drain and trim, and a ducted exhaust fan sized for the room so the glass dries instead of spotting. I'll show you on the walkthrough before the last payment.

Boca Raton walk-in questions
Something else on your mind? Call or text (954) 242-5924.
How much does a walk-in shower cost in Boca Raton?
$6,500 to $11,000 on its own, in 7 to 10 working days on the existing drain, up to 14 for a slab recess with a moved drain, the same range I quote in Broward. A slab recess with a linear drain is the top of it; a 2-inch curb on the existing drain is the bottom.
Can a Century Village bathroom be zero entry?
Only by raising the rest of the bathroom floor, because the building's deck is never cut. Most owners choose a 2-inch tiled curb with a bench, anchored grab bars and a hand shower, which does the same job for a walker.
Who approves the work in a Boca West village?
Your village association, and the master where it applies; their documents cover insurance, hours and access, and I follow them.
Will Boca's water ruin frameless glass?
It's harder than Broward's, 3.8 to 4.7 grains by the city's own number, so spots show faster. A squeegee after each shower, a monthly vinegar wipe, a brushed finish on the drain and trim and a properly ducted fan keep the glass clear. I'll show you on the walkthrough.
Do you handle permits?
Yes, we can help with permits. Ask us about your job when we come to look.
