The conversion I build everywhere, under Palm Beach County's rules and in water that asks for a little more care.

Everything we do in Boca RatonEverything we do in Palm Beach CountyWhat it costs: Tub-to-Shower Conversion Cost in South Florida

Country-club era tubs, and small condo baths

More than half of Boca Raton's housing was built in the 1970s and 1980s (Census ACS 2024), when Arvida was laying out Boca West and the Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club lots were filling in.

Boca West's Arbor Lake village dates to 1977 to 1979; Century Village's buildings to 1979, with units of roughly 600 to 900 square feet where the bathroom is small and the tub takes most of it. A conversion in a room that size does more than any other change could: the 14-inch step is gone, the glass panel opens the room, and a bench fits where the tub's end wall was. A quarter of Boca residents are 65 or over, so blocking for grab bars goes into every wall I open.

  • Royal Palm's homes from 1959 and the Old Floresta Mizner houses: cast-iron tubs cut out in pieces, plaster replaced with cement board, the drain scoped.
  • Twenty-four percent of Boca units are in buildings of 50 or more; the riser shut-off and the service elevator go on the schedule.
  • Century Village and the Boca West villages: your association's documents govern insurance and hours. The city publishes no approval-letter rule, so the village's is the one I follow.

Harder water than Broward: what changes on the quote

Boca publishes its hardness, 65 to 80 milligrams per liter as calcium carbonate, 3.8 to 4.7 grains, at a pH of 8.0 to 8.5 with a chloramine residual, from a plant that pairs a lime-softening line more than 50 years old with a 40 million-gallon membrane process built in 2005. That is harder than the water in most of the Broward cities I work in, and it shows on glass and trim. So in Boca I spec differently: a factory protective coating on the shower glass, porcelain rather than natural stone on the walls, a thermostatic valve with a cartridge the plumber can swap in ten minutes, and a hand-held on a slide bar you can rinse the door with. None of it is exotic. It's just the right list for this water.

  • The city adds no fluoride; whatever is in the water occurs naturally.
  • A squeegee after each shower and a monthly vinegar wipe keep coated glass clear for years.

eHub, Eplans and the plumbing application

  • Outside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone: if the job includes a bathroom window, it needs an approval meeting the local wind requirements, a standard Florida product approval or a qualifying Miami-Dade one.

A tiled conversion in the priciest houses I work in

Boca's median owner-occupied home is worth $722,700, the highest of any city on this site, and 65.7 percent of homes are owner-occupied.

That changes the tub conversion math. It also changes the drive: Boca is about 35 minutes from Plantation and across the county line, so I come for a conversion, a walk-in or a full bathroom, and I group the visits, the quote, the glass measure after tile and the walkthrough, so you're never waiting on me.

  • The glass is measured after the tile and takes about a week; hanging it is sometimes a short return trip.
  • One year on the work, the Done Right Promise, 35 minutes away or not.

Boca Raton conversion questions

Something else on your mind? Call or text (954) 242-5924.

What does a tub to shower conversion cost in Boca Raton?

$6,500 to $11,000, the same range I quote in Broward, for a tiled walk-in with a bench, a thermostatic valve, coated glass and grab-bar blocking.

Does Boca's hard water ruin frameless glass?

Not if it's planned for. At 3.8 to 4.7 grains the water is harder than most of Broward, so I spec a factory coating on the glass and a hand-held to rinse it, and a squeegee after each shower keeps it clear. I'll show you on the walkthrough.

Can a Century Village bathroom take a walk-in shower?

Yes, and in a 600 to 900 square foot unit it's the change that opens the room. A low curb, a bench where the tub's end wall was, a hand-held, blocking for bars, and glass instead of a curtain. Your association's documents set the insurance and the hours, and I follow them.

Do you handle permits?

Yes, we can help with permits. Ask us about your job when we come to look.

Why would I choose tile over a one-day liner in Boca?

Because of what the house is worth. A tiled walk-in on a flood-tested pan, in a city where the median home is $722,700, is the finish the house deserves, and it's a fixed price from me, not a sales rep.
