Repair versus replace cost comparator.

Compare two quotes without pretending to know the condition of what's broken. Put in the repair quote and the replacement quote, set how many years you assume each buys you, and see the upfront difference and the cost per year of each. The assumptions stay on the screen, because they're yours.

Your assumptions

Opens with a sample exterior door: patch and re-hang, or a new pre-hung unit. Type over it with your quotes. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

Replacing costs less per year: $160 against $217.

What this assumes
  • The years are yours. The tool has not seen the door, the unit or the roof and cannot judge its condition.
  • Each option costs its quote and nothing else: no energy savings, no upkeep, no resale value, no second repair.
  • Cost per year is the quote divided by the years you assumed, straight division, no interest.
  • A repair that fails early costs its quote again; a replacement that outlasts your number costs less per year than shown.

For the condition itself, Brad looks at it on the free visit and tells you which he'd do in his own house.

How the math works

Three lines, all division.

The tool never guesses how long anything will last; you set the years and it does the arithmetic.

  • Upfront difference = replacement quote − repair quote
  • Cost per year = quote ÷ the years you assumed for that option
  • Repair wins per year only if it lasts at least: repair quote ÷ (replacement quote ÷ replacement years)
  • No interest, no energy savings, no upkeep, no resale value: just the two quotes and your two numbers

The sample numbers

The tool opens with an exterior door: $650 to patch the rot and re-hang it, or $2,400 for a new pre-hung unit installed.

If the repair buys three years, it costs $217 a year; if the new door serves fifteen, it costs $160 a year. Replacing costs $1,750 more up front and $57 a year less.

  • Sample repair $650, assumed 3 years: $217 per year
  • Sample replacement $2,400, assumed 15 years: $160 per year
  • Upfront difference $1,750
  • Repair wins only if it lasts 4.1+ years
The details

Slide the repair years to five and the repair drops to $130 a year, under the replacement. The break-even line tells you the same thing without sliding: on these quotes the repair wins per year only if it lasts about 4.1 years. Whether it will is the question the tool can't answer, and the one Brad answers on the visit.

What the years really are

The years are a guess, and the tool says so.

A repair on a sound door can last a decade; a repair on a door with water behind the jamb can fail by the next rainy season. Nobody can tell from a quote. Someone can tell from the door.

  • Slide the years and watch how fast the answer flips
  • If a small change in years flips it, the condition decides, not the math
  • If no reasonable years flip it, the math has decided
  • On the free visit, Brad tells you which he'd do in his own house
The details

So use the comparator the way it's meant: to see how sensitive the decision is. If the repair has to last eight years to win and you doubt it will last three, the quotes have answered you. If it only has to last two, repair it.

Questions about this tool

Something else on your mind? Call or text (954) 242-5924.

Does the tool judge whether my door, roof or unit can be repaired?

No. It has not seen it and says so in the assumptions. It compares two quotes on years you choose. For the condition, Brad looks at it on a free visit.

What about energy savings, upkeep or resale value?

They're left out on purpose, so the comparison is only the two quotes and your two numbers. If one option saves on power bills or needs less upkeep, that's a reason to shade your years, and the assumptions list says so.

Does it send my quotes anywhere?

No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent. Our analytics only records that the tool was used.
